PKF — Prague Philharmonia, one of the most prestigious Czech and international orchestras, is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Concertmaster (full-time position). Founded in 1994 by Jiří Bělohlávek, our orchestra has earned a reputation for excellence, with regular invitations to international music festivals and performances in the world's leading concert halls.

How to apply:

We are looking for candidates with a musical background and relevant artistic experience. Please include with your application an uncut, unedited video recording of a piece of your choice (up to 5 minutes in length and no more than 6 months old).

Audition:

The audition will take place on 8 and 9 January 2024 at the Ládví Cultural Centre, Burešova 1661/2, Prague 8. The selected candidate should take up the position of Concertmaster at the beginning of the 2024/2025 season, or earlier by individual agreement. Candidates shortlisted for the live audition will receive orchestral excerpts and detailed information about the audition schedule by midnight on Monday 11 December 2023.

Audition repertoire:

1st round

  • W. A. Mozart: Violin Concerto in G major K. 216, D major K. 218 or A major K. 219 (1st and 2nd movements - both movements with cadenzas).

2nd round

  • Complete Violin Concerto (with cadenzas): L. van Beethoven, J. Brahms, P. I. Tchaikovsky, A. Dvorak or J. Sibelius
  • Orchestral solos: J. S. Bach (aria Erbarme Dich from St Matthew Passion, BWV 244), Mozart (Serenade in D major, KV 250, ‘Haffner’), Beethoven (Missa Solemnis), Tchaikovsky (Suite No. 4, op. 61, ‘Mozartiana’), Brahms (Symphony no. 1 in C minor, op. 68), Dvořák (Symphony no. 8 in G major, op. 88), R. Strauss (Le Bourgeois gentilhomme – Dance of the Tailors), Stravinsky (Little Concert from The Soldier’s Tale)
